The Potter Daniels Manor, the English Tudor Revival–style residence that hosted the 1975 and 1996 showcase houses, has been reimagined with 30 new interior and exterior spaces for the 2024 edition, which is now open until May 19. The work of David Hertz Architects Inc, Studio of Environmental Architecture (SEA), focuses on designing and constructing environmentally responsible residential and commercial buildings. SEA engages in multiple facets of design, including product design, furniture design, public sculpture, environmental consulting, and the research and development of resource-efficient ecologic building products. Los Angeles is full of beautiful Craftsman houses, but the Gamble House in Pasadena, designed inside and out by brothers Charles and Henry Greene is the cream of the crop. The house was built in 1908 as a summer house for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter and Gamble Company.

Freedom by Design Celebrates with Custom-Designed Outdoor Learning Center

We work with a diverse group of stakeholders to deliver work ranging from art galleries, bus shelters, and large-scale neighborhood plans, to large mixed-use developments, supportive housing and university residential complexes. Atelier Scale is a landscape studio that focuses on people’s livelihood with the power of design. It aims to explore the relationship within different scales in landscape, that is, to find creative solutions and expressions from the relationships between the whole and parts, groups and individuals.

Before he designed the Disney Concert Hall, Frank Gehry also designed the Binoculars Building in the Venice neighborhood of LA. Architecture and landscape work together at the Getty to crate unique outdoor rooms, such as this courtyard shaded by a bosque of California sycamores. Many residents of the region have come to use the Getty landscape as a public park and meeting space. An electric tramcar winds up the picturesque hillside, giving visitors time to relax and prepare to take in the experience of the Getty. Summer Programs are week-long classes (Mon-Fri) for students entering grades 3-5, 6-8, or 9-12 in Fall 2024. All Summer Programs are held at the Center for Architecture, unless otherwise noted.

“It was so much work, but it turned out beautiful.” The firm wanted the space to feel “light and airy and breezy,” and incorporated fabrics and wall coverings by Thibaut in a soft color palette. Peltier and designer Marina Kelly installed an arch to divide the bedroom from the sitting area, breaking up the large space. Designer Rachel Scheff used the home’s spectacular ceiling, woodwork, and stained glass as the inspirations for her fanciful, flora- and fauna-filled foyer. “It was one of my favorite rooms in the house because it was the one that had the most history preserved, and I wanted to really celebrate that,” she told AD PRO. For her Foyer of Enchantment, Scheff installed a custom mural by Hattas Art Studios, a John Richard chandelier dripping with glass leaves, a silk wall covering by Aux Abris, and organic furniture created with Amorph Studio.

Urban planners consider street layouts, building types, open spaces, infrastructure, and other amenities when designing vibrant communities. Students will use their own neighborhoods, as well as examples from around the world, to learn about urban design. They will then design and build their own piece of a neighborhood using 3D design software. Individual projects will come together at the end of the week to create an ideal neighborhood.

The landscape of the Getty is indelibly connected to the context of Southern California and the iconic architecture of the museum campus, and it springs from many generations of the Mediterranean and Californian garden traditions. For their final project, students will design and build their own model for a house of the future. Cozy Stylish Chic Creative Director Jeanne K. Chung and designers Angela Lee and Caroline Meloche brightened the dark wood-paneled library to create a space where residents can unplug. “Our two main goals were to create a space that was comfortable and a little bit updated while also retaining that history and not touching or harming all the really cool features that were innate to the room and came with the house,” Meloche says.

Since its preliminary design submission for the competition, Perkins&Will’s concept has proffered a building that embodies the shape (and spirit) of stars and interstellar elements. This webinar explores how integrating technologies into our daily routines can transform our work processes and AE firm’s culture. Designer Stephanie Hatten updated the Gatehouse Kitchen, turning it into an airy English-country-inspired space. An eye-catching natural stone by Walker Zanger was selected for the counters and backsplash, and the space was outfitted with the latest Monogram appliances. Native California wildflowers accent the Arroyo Vista Garden, which was designed with fire safety in mind. Landscape architect Elisa Read Pappaterra filled the center fountain with cascading succulents.
